A classic study by Prof. Axelsson and Prof. Lindhe, two Scandinavian scientists, impressively demonstrated as early as 1981 just how effective and successful this approach can be: “Traditional dentistry” (= repair only) led, over a 6-year period, to a significantly greater loss of periodontal tissue and substantially more tooth decay than “preventive dentistry” (prevention rather than repair). Numerous scientific studies, including recent ones, have repeatedly confirmed similar results.
